A passage from Psalm 85 was particularly important to Bowden’s search, “Truth will spring from the earth, and righteousness comes down from the heavens.”

 Over the progression of ten years (1972 to 1982), one can see the metamorphosis in Bowden’s work from a very abstract interpretation of created forms to a more recognizable landscape. Within the earth’s strata layers of text, words buried between the levels of rock, resonate with the history of human culture.
