Vannucci Cross

after Francesco di Vannuccio (1356 –89)

Virtually every duomo in Italy had a crucifix, sometimes sculptured, but the most popular form was the painted cross. Little is know about the Sinese artist Vannuccio, but this large painted cross demonstrates his ability and artistic insight. The star-shaped panels at the top and arms of the cross create a stunning shilouette. This cross is in the South Carolina collection at the Bob Jones University Museum.
